Umpqua's Beck's Super Bugger Fly by Cathy Beck is a fly that was born out of a hurricane. When the category five storm hit the Yucatan coast, the fishing group hosted by Frontiers Travel had to take refuge in a boarded-up hotel room. It was there that Cathy Beck created the Super Bugger, a crab-like fly that would give off vibrations to attract fish in dirty water. The bulky body is made up of grizzly dyed tan hen body feathers, with a tan Marabou tail and three protruding silicone sili-legs. The fly also has a tan dubbing brush that is figured-eighted around the eyes. Originally designed for saltwater fishing, the Super Bugger has proved to be highly effective in freshwater too. In fact, Cathy's best catch to date is a 16 and a half pound rainbow from Argentina's Jurassic Lake. Fished correctly, the Super Bugger is a go-to fly for streamer fishing.
